MonieLock App

MonieLock is a P2P escrow trading app — users trade with each other and the app holds the funds in escrow until both parties confirm.

OBJECTIVE

MonieLock was built to solve a trust problem that plagues peer-to-peer trading in Nigeria, people getting scammed when buying or selling with strangers online. The goal was to design a mobile app (and an admin dashboard to manage it) that puts an escrow layer between every trade, so neither party can run off with the money.

CHALLENGES

The core UX challenge was making escrow feel simple. Escrow as a concept involves multiple steps and waiting periods, and most users just want to send or receive money, they don't want to think about "escrow." Designing a flow that protected users without making the process feel heavy or confusing required careful reduction at every step.

SOLUTION

The answer was to keep things honest and clear at every turn. Onboarding was built around a straightforward KYC flow that felt less like an interrogation and more like setting yourself up properly. The wallet gave users a familiar, no-surprise experience; fund, withdraw, track. And the trade flow, for both buyers and sellers, was designed to move people forward one step at a time, always showing them what's happening with their money and what comes next. Nothing hidden, nothing confusing, just a product that does what it says.
